In rural Grande Prairie, crime rates decreased slightly according to the Grande Prairie RCMP’s September newsletter.

Constable Lindsay McNab with the detachment says keep your vehicles locked and valuables not left inside to deter thieves.

“People in rural areas have different things they need to make secure on their property, cause there are less eyes and ears out there… it’s great that crime is not increasing for them.”

She says there is nothing specific to point to for an increase of police events in the City, but last year there were still pandemic restrictions so numbers were lower all around.

“Things are returning back to normal, bars are back to normal, businesses are open different hours or all hours… it’s just more of a normal look for September 2022 as opposed to in 2021.”

McNab notes police events are when a file has been created including collisions, traffic infractions, and public service calls.
