City asking for resident input on events strategy

Nov 10, 2022 | 12:41 PM

The City of Grande Prairie is seeking input from the public on the development of an events strategy for the City.

Each year, the City hosts, participates in, and funds dozens of events for cultural celebrations and holidays to bring people together.

The events strategy is developed to maximize the benefits of local events for residents and the economy, in an effort to identify gaps and areas where there could be an improvement.

An online survey is available for residents to take and share their feedback from November 10-25, 2022.

The City’s Interim Director of Communications and Marketing, Rory Tarant says they wanted to take a ‘deeper dive’ this year to create an events strategy.

“Why do we do events? Is the community happy with the events we have? Is there certain areas we should be investing more in, or is there a certain event we don’t have that we should,” Tarant says are some of the questions they are looking to be answered through the online survey.

The City puts on celebrations for Canada Day and New Years’ Eve as well as the Grande North Winter Fest, Harvest Festival, Experience GP, and Easter Extravaganza.

He says the feedback from comments on social media of Experience GP’s launch this past summer was, “well received and positive.”

The survey asks respondents to share their values and interests to identify what barriers may exist for attending city events.

Feedback collected from the survey will build the framework for the events strategy, which will guide how events are created and executed in Grande Prairie in the future.
