Drugs and handgun seized during traffic stop in Grande Prairie

Nov 21, 2022 | 11:31 AM

Multiple charges have been laid against two people following a traffic stop conducted in Grande Prairie’s north end on November 3.

At around 9:30 p.m. that evening, Grande Prairie RCMP says they pulled over a vehicle in the area of 100 Street and 113 Avenue.

A search of the vehicle turned up varying amounts of both cocaine and meth, as well as $6,100 in Canadian cash, and a loaded 9 mm handgun which Mounties determined had been stolen from a previous commercial break-and-enter.

34-year-old Travis Stout of Edmonton and 49-year-old Twila Letendre of Grande Prairie each face a total of eight charges, including two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and one count each of possession of property obtained by crime both over and under $5,000.

They also face four weapons-related offenses, including unauthorized use of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without a license or registration.

Stout faces an additional eight charges, including multiple counts of breach of a release order and possessing a weapon contrary to an order.

He remains in custody while Letendre was released from custody, with both slated to be back in Grande Prairie Provincial Court this Wednesday.
