Weekend sports recap

There were seven games this past weekend in the NWJHL.

On Friday, the Fort St John Huskies won 4-2 against the Sexsmith Vipers.

The North Peace Navigators beat the La Crete Lumberbarons 3-2

and the Fairview Flyers lost to the Beaverlodge Blades 5-0.

On Saturday, the Flyers traveled to La Crete and lost 4-3 to the Lumberbarons.

The Navs and Vipers had a high-scoring game, with Sexsmith winning 10-8,

The Wheat Kings played the Huskies and lost 4-2.

and the Dawson Creek Kodiaks won 8-0 against the Blades.

The County of Grande Prairie Wheat Kings still sits atop the standings following their loss this past weekend.

The Grande Prairie Storm of the AJHL played a pair of games at home this weekend.

On Friday they lost to the Lloydminster Bobcats 3-2 but came back on Saturday to win 1-0.

Their next game is Wednesday in Whitecourt against the Wolverines.

North Peace Hockey League action from Saturday saw the Grande Prairie Athletics knock off Fort St John 7-4, while Manning got by Spirit River 4-2.

St John Paul II girls’ volleyball team is the 3A provincial champions.

They claimed the title in Lethbridge over the weekend, beating Cochrane in three sets.

Peace Wapiti girls won two tiebreakers to make it into the playoffs, before losing to Cochrane in the quarterfinals.

On the 3A boys’ side, the Peace Wapiti boys brought home a silver, losing the final in three sets to Barrhead.

Also of note, La Crete boys and Peace River girls lost out in the quarterfinals at the 2A provincials.
