PWPSD to hire mental health staff after receiving a grant from the province

Nov 29, 2022 | 11:41 AM

Peace Wapiti Public school division will be adding four new staff members to work directly on student mental health and wellness.

Recruitment will begin shortly for a full-time Outreach team lead and three family support workers.

Funding for the positions, which includes salary, benefits, professional development, certification, and mileage, will be covered through a mental health grant given to the division by Alberta Education.

The funding is for two years, starting January 1st, 2023, and running through to the end of 2024.

In a news release, PWPSD Assistant Superintendent Heather Putio says she is really proud of the innovative ideas that their grant committee has brought to the table, which allowed them to develop a proposal that is unique and in direct response to the division’s needs.
