Contract awarded for regional fire training centre construction

Draeger Safety Canada has been awarded the contract to build a new regional fire training centre in the County of Grande Prairie.

No word on when construction will start on the $1.886 million facility.

It was originally pegged to cost $1.4 million back in 2019, but inflation and increased material costs have pushed the price tag up.

The County of Grande Prairie will contribute $1.29 million towards the construction costs, with the rest of the funding coming from the City of Grande Prairie and the M-D of Greenview.

County council has directed its administration to research different operating models for the facility and to bring those findings back to a future council meeting.
