A Grande Prairie athlete will be competing on the international stage in Italy this week.

Eighteen-year-old Liam Tinworth is one of 139 competitors entered in the International Biathlon Union’s 10-kilometre junior men’s sprint competition.

The race will be run Thursday at 6 a.m. Alberta time. It will be Tinworth’s first-ever international competition.

There are three other men’s races scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but the start lists have not yet been announced.

He also has another international race, nationals, and the Canada Games coming up this season

Tinworth moved to Canmore when he was 17 to train at the national training centre.

A food package fund-raiser to support Tinworth’s career is being run through the M&M Food Market location in Cobblestone.

Lasagna dinner and holiday party packages are both available.
