Cause of Keystone pipeline spill in Kansas unknown
Calgary-based TC Energy says the cause of an oil spill into a creek in northeastern Kansas hasn’t yet been determined, and no re-start timeline for the company’s Keystone pipeline system has been confirmed.
TC Energy posted an update to its website yesterday about the spill, which the company says took place Wednesday night and dumped around 14,000 barrels.
Sunday’s update re-iterated that quote “the product remains contained” with numerous vacuum trucks, booms, and other resources onsite.
A U.S. Energy Information Administration spokesperson said the Keystone pipeline moves about 600,000 barrels of oil per day from Alberta to Cushing, Oklahoma, where it can connect to another pipeline to the Gulf Coast.
