RCMP update joint investigation that led to two arrests

Jan 16, 2023 | 1:38 PM

Alberta RCMP have released more information about a joint investigation by police from both sides of the Peace.

The Western Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit located a Dodge Nitro that had been stolen in Fort St John and was connected to an arrest made in Grande Prairie.

On January 11, members from the Western Alberta Crime Reduction Unit received a report about a Dodge Nitro that had been stolen in Fort St. John and was used for break-and-enters in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek areas the night before, as well as the theft of an ATM.

Mounties on patrol later located this vehicle in a local motel parking lot and, after some preliminary checks, determined it was the same vehicle.

Officers arrested the suspect in his motel room and searched his room and vehicle. They recovered, over $40,000 in Canadian currency, a large amount of drugs suspected to be fentanyl, $102 of American money, and 30 assorted gift cards.

Twenty-eight-year-old Corbyn John Hubley has received eleven charges including:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5000 (x4)
  • Possession of stolen property under $5000 (x4)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Fraudulent Concealment

Hubley was remanded into custody and was expected in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on January 16.

Police allege Hubley has been an active offender in Northern B.C. and Alberta, most recently being charged with possession of stolen property, after he was located in a stolen vehicle in Hinton on December 17.
