More than 70 families supported by Adopt-A-Family campaign over Christmas

Odyssey House in Grande Prairie says its Adopt-A-Family campaign was a mission accomplished over the holiday season in 2022.

The shelter says 74 families and 154 children from across the Peace region that access the shelter’s services benefitted from the campaign, being able to have Christmas dinner and gifts through generous community donations.

Interim Director of Education and Engagement with Odyssey House, Mike Moman says it was a tremendous success.

“The people that came together to donate… their hearts were in such an amazing place.”

“Knowing with our hope to one day eliminate domestic abuse and partner violence, seeing that vision, it may be far off, but the steps that we can take today with education, we can provide the services through Odyssey House… are all steps to move towards that. It’s the support with what we are doing in the community, that the supporters are just incredible human beings for what they’re doing,” Moman says.

He says donations ranged from gift cards to grocery stores for Christmas dinner, and gifts for the children off their wish lists.

“I can tell you the room we had were just packed full for these families to come in and collect. It was just tremendous, everything was just to the roof. When it came to delivery of this, it was all hands on deck… an incredible situation to see these families and the smiles on their faces.”

Moman says they were overwhelmed with gratitude.

“This kind of happiness you only wish to see on people’s faces knowing their family was going to have an incredible Christmas because of generosity.”

Odyssey House was also able to support eight families with donations made from the community outside of the Adopt-A-Family program.
