Beaverlodge product named AJHL Rookie of the Week

Seventeen-year-old Spencer Rheaume from Beaverlodge has been picked as the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week for January 23– 29, 2023.

The rookie center is currently playing for the Whitecourt Wolverines.

In a January 25, match-up against the Grande Prairie Storm, he opened the scoring in the first period with his sixth goal of the season, which helped the Wolverines to go on to win 5-3.

On January 28, he was awarded the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game, playing against the Lloydminster Bobcats, after he recorded a career-high four points, to hoist his team to a 5-3 win.

“I think I helped some guys score some pretty big goals for our team, and they were putting them in the net,” Rheaume said about his four-assist performance against the Bobcats.

“My games been improving all year, so it’s really nice to finally have that come,” he noted on being the AJHL Rookie of the Week.

Rheaume says the expectation for his team since the start of the year is winning the championship, as they are currently second in the Viterra AJHL North Division, with a playoff spot locked down.

The Wolverines were in Grande Prairie Tuesday night, where they beat the Storm 4-3 in OT.

“It always feels pretty good playing in your hometown… especially when you’re able to beat them,” he chuckled.
