Local curlers busy at provincial men’s, U18 nationals

Sexsmith’s Daylen Vavrek will play Kevin Koe Wednesday night at 6:30 in his second game at the Alberta men’s provincial curling championship.

Vavrek advanced with an 8-2 win in eight ends over Airdrie’s Warren Kozak in the opening draw Wednesday afternoon.

Scott Webb’s team from Grande Prairie lost its opener 10-7 to Parker Konschuh from Edmonton in its first game. Webb’s next game will be played Thursday morning.

Hiebert at U18 nationals

A curler from Sexsmith has skipped his team to a 5-0 record so far at the Canadian U18 championships.

Jaxon Hiebert’s rink beat a team from the Northwest Territories 10-3 in six ends Wednesday afternoon. The next play Nova Scotia Thursday morning.

Alberta has two boys’ teams at the event in Timmins, Ontario. Both are 5-0.

The two girl’s teams are in the same pool. One is 4-0, the other 3-1, and were set to play each other Wednesday afternoon.
