RCMP investigating multiple incidents involving GHB

Feb 9, 2023 | 3:20 PM

Grande Prairie RCMP want to warn residents about a batch of GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate) drugs possibly making rounds in the Peace Region.

A recent investigation led Mounties to multiple incidents involving the street-level drug. They report that GHB is a central nervous system depressant and can make the person who consumed it incapacitated.

This drug comes in liquid or white powder forms and is tasteless, odorless, and colourless. It can be slipped into someone’s drink unnoticed and can appear as an overdose.

GHB causes loss of consciousness, hallucinations, vomiting, sluggishness, comas, or in serious cases, death.

Mounties would like residents to be aware of the potential threat and to be vigilant when out in public, as this drug is commonly used on others as a way to immobilize a victim., A lot of GHB is created using chemicals and processes that vary from lab to lab, which means it could be altered to be more toxic.

If you or someone you know is experiencing overdose symptoms call 911.

If you have any information about suspicious or drug activity in your area, or if you find any suspicious substances, avoid contact and call the Grande Prairie RCMP detachment at 780-830-5700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-545-8477 (TIPS), or online at www.P3Tips.com.
