A Grande Prairie local and his dog sled team enter the Yukon Quest

Today is the start of the Yukon Quest 2023 Dog Sled race.

This contest consists of three different legs for dog sled teams to race in, 100-mile, 250-mile, and 450-mile divisions, and Grande Prairie’s own Aaron Peck will be in attendance.

Aaron Peck first raced in this event last year in the 300-mile division placing 4th and is back again this year moving up to the 450-mile division, mushing his dogs from Whitehorse to Dawson City, with the winner taking home, $45,000.

Racing out of Elevation Sled Dogs, Peck has two teams in the race, his own dog sled team and a second being mushed by Mayla Hill.

Peck and Hill will begin their trek from White Horse to Dawson City, today at 11 a.m. MST in hopes of taking the first place spot.
