Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser set for February 25

Feb 15, 2023 | 6:00 AM

The Grande Prairie office of the Canadian Mental Health Association will host its Coldest Night of the Year fundraise on February 25.

It will include two and five-kilometre walks in Muskoseepi Park.

Spokesperson Sherilee Crawley says the walk will be a fun event for the entire family.

“To raise awareness for mental health, so youth have an opportunity to fundraise and so do adults.”

“I think it’s a great event to come together and just walk for mental health.”

Crawley says money raised will go towards the Recovery College program, the Willow Place program and the Mobile Addictions Outreach Program.

“We’re seeing a great need actually. For our Mobile Outreach Addictions Program, we work with … mostly street-engaged people who are experiencing mental health and substance use issues, so we support them in getting connected to services.”

“We have noticed an increasing need for services, especially for mental health, since COVID.”

Crawley says they hope to raise $50,0000. She adds there are a few ways to participate.

“One is you can go online, and you can register, create a team and get people to walk under your team. People can also just go online and sponsor an existing team.”

“We’re looking for volunteers for the event and there are also sponsorship opportunities for businesses if they would like to get involved.”

Crawley says the night will also include kid’s activities, a DJ, food, and coffee.

Anyone who wants to take part is welcome. Registration and more information can be found here.
