Passionate Hearts awards handed out in person for first time in three years

The 17th annual Passionate Hearts awards were handed out on Tuesday to seven individuals and four organizations for their contributions to social services within the region.

Sponsored by Family Community Support Services in the city, the county, and the towns of Sexsmith, Beaverlodge and Wembley, the awards celebrate individuals and groups that enhance social services or generally improve the quality of life within the region.

Exceptional Service awards were presented to six individuals:

• Rick Zimmerman, Operations Manager, Rising Above
• Myles Edgar, Teacher, Athletic Director & Leadership Advisor, Peace Wapiti Public School Division —Beaverlodge Regional High School
• Stacy Rorem, Assistant Principal, Peace Wapiti Public School Division — Robert W. Zahara School
• Lee Boylan, Principal, Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools — Holy Cross School
• Corrine Shmyruk, Principal, Grande Prairie Public School Division — Parkside Montessori
• Jill Kergen, Community Outreach Librarian, Grande Prairie Public Library

The Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta and the Peace Collaborative Services Team both received Exceptional Team awards, while the Minhas Group and ABC Recycling took home Exceptional Business awards.
