Andrea Vavrek Dine & Dance 4 HOPE set for Saturday

Feb 17, 2023 | 6:00 AM

The Andrea Vavrek Dine & Dance 4 Hope in support of organ donation is set for Saturday night in Sexsmith.

Organizer Larry Vavrek says since it started, this event has raised $100,000 for the HOPE Program at the University of Alberta.

“The community has done really, really well. We’re still noted by the university as the hot spot in Alberta for knowledge about organ donation, so somebody is doing something right.”

“I hope we can be considered part of it.”

Hope stands for Human Organ Procurement and Exchange. Andrea Vavrek was an advocate for organ donation during her life and donated several organs after she died in a vehicle crash in 2007 near Manning.

Her dad Larry, says this started when she was a 4H kid in Grade 7.

“I would love, just love, to know what was the catalyst that turned her on to organ donation. If we knew that, maybe we could take and use it to turn more people on to organ donation.”

“She’s still doing it in her way.”

The evening will include a supper, dance, silent auction, and presentations from organ transplant experts at the University of Alberta.

There is no bonspiel this year as there had been in past years.
