CRU traffic stop leads to collision and arrest

An attempted traffic stop on a vehicle associated with a male with outstanding warrants led the Grande Prairie Crime Reduction Unit to arrest an adult male and female youth passenger.

On February 23 Mounties from the CRU attempted a traffic stop on the associated vehicle, at which point the vehicle tried to flee but collided with a second police vehicle that was arriving to assist. Nobody was injured during the collision but both vehicles were damaged.

Mounties did search the vehicle turning up a number of illegal items:

  • A loaded Ruger pistol with the serial number removed
  • 30 grams of suspected cocaine
  • Drug packaging materials
  • Brass knuckles
  • $3800 in Canadian Currency

Twenty-two-year-old Andrew Moores of Grande Prairie is facing multiple charges including:

  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance (Cocaine)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Carry concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing the serial number on it had been removed
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm while prohibited
  • Failing to comply with release conditions (x3)

Moores was remanded into custody following his arrest and is expected in Grande Prairie Provincial Court March 20.

The 17-year-old female passenger, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was also charged with numerous offenses, including six firearms-related offenses. She was released on an undertaking and set to appear in court April 5.
