Northwest Alberta Sport Excellence Awards handed out
Athletes and sports officials from across the Peace region were recognized Friday night as recipients of the Northwest Alberta Sport Excellence awards.
Recipients included cross country skier Aiden Armstrong and pistol shooter Elizabeth Gustafson as Male and Female Athlete of the Year, while baseball player Matthew Matier and martial artist Ashleigh Bartelds were named Junior Male and Female Athletes of the Year.
Basketball’s Lucas Gorgichuk and baseball’s Neil Weston were named Coach and Developmental Coach of the Year respectively, while Official of the Year was presented to hockey official Brian Lieverse.
Wrapping up the award winners were softball’s Rhiannon Bradley as Unsung Hero, Crystal and Mark Owens Sports Builders for their work with local football, and Team of the Year was presented to the Beaverlodge Rebels U14 boys volleyball team.
