The city and county have unveiled details of their joint Earth Day 2023 celebrations.

This year, Earth Day is April 22nd, with activities planned for that day from noon to 4 pm in Teresa Sargent hall at the Montrose Cultural Centre.

Among the highlights are an interactive scavenger hunt, information on clean energy, an electric vehicle showcase, and a “Bee city” webinar which also includes cookie decorating and interacting with a live hive full of bees, in order to teach visitors about pollinators.

The GP Grows Seed bar will have 13 different seed varieties for people to grab for their gardens.

Several local businesses and organizations will also have displays about their sustainable practices and environmental stewardship practices.

In a news release, County of Grande Prairie Reeve Bob Marshall says the event will be a great opportunity to learn how everyone can make small changes in their daily routines that have a positive impact on the environment.

Mayor Jackie Clayton adds it is important to remember that protecting and preserving the environment today is essential for a healthy and sustainable planet for generations to come.

The city will also offer free transit services that day, in order to reduce carbon emissions and support environmental conservation.
