P-R SCHOOL EMERGENCY PLAN

Tuesday meeting to focus on emergency planning for Peace River schools

Apr 2, 2023 | 7:00 AM

The Holy Family Regional Catholic School Division will be hosting several key stakeholders on Tuesday to discuss and review a Peace River Community Emergency Disaster Plan review for Health and Safety in Schools.

Reviewing current procedures in case of an emergency, and establishing a joint community effort to respond to school emergency scenarios in Peace River are two of the main purposes of the meeting. It will begin at 9 am in the Auditorium of the HFCRD office.

Among those attending the meeting will be representatives from HFCRD, Peace River School Division, Conseil Scolaire du Nord-Ouest, Peace Regional RCMP, Peace River Fire Department, ambulance services, ATCO, the Town of Peace River, and Northern Sunrise County.

HFCRD Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator Shane O’Connor says he cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have proper planning in place in case of an emergency.

Meanwhile, HFCRD Superintendent Betty Turpin says as was the case with the lockdown at the Mile Zero Multiplex last year, a disaster scenario affects many different organizations, adding that the safety of students, staff and the community is paramount.
