Jail sentence for second accused in stolen police car case

Alberta Justice says a Valleyview man charged after an incident in March 2022 where a police car was stolen has been given a jail sentence of nearly four years.

David Pinfield was given the sentence March 27 in Grande Prairie court after pleading guilty to a half-dozen charges. That included two of flight from a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, theft over $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle, shopbreaking with intent, and failure to comply with a release order.

He was given consecutive sentences for some charges that added up to 1400 days.

Pinfield and Sara Desjarlais were arrested after an incident on March 16, 2022.

Police located a vehicle that had been reported stolen near 162 Avenue and 102 Street.

The driver tried to take off, but the vehicle went off the road. A woman was arrested but a man ran away and made off with an unsecured police vehicle before being arrested the next day.

Desjarlais was handed a 720-day sentence in February after pleading guilty to a robbery charge.

Third accused sentence after drug, weapon seizure

Alberta Justice says a High Prairie man charged after what ALERT described at the time as “a suspected transaction between a firearms trafficker and a drug dealer” has been given a five-year jail sentence.

Dustin Prinz was sentenced March 27 in Grande Prairie court after he had pleaded guilty to charges of possession of a loaded or restricted firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm and drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He was given a 30-month jail sentence on the first charge, six months consecutive for the second and another 24 months consecutive on the third.

He was arrested on May 13, 2019. ALERT alleged at the time that a firearms deal was taking place in the parking lot of a Grande Prairie shopping centre.

Police seized four firearms, a rifle, ammunition, cocaine, and cash.

ALERT said at the time that it looked like Prinz – a suspected drug dealer, was buying three handguns from Loriann Vegso; someone police suspected of buying and re-selling guns. She pleaded guilty to a charge of weapons trafficking in March 2022 and was given a three-year jail sentence. The third accused, Hailey Badger, was given a two-year conditional sentence order in April 2022 after admitting to a charge of possession of a firearm in a vehicle.

Two of three people charged after 2021 drugs, weapons arrest sentenced

Alberta Justice says two of the three people charged after an arrest in 2021 where pills and weapons were seized have been sentenced.

Adam Thomas David Garlow was given a 450-day sentence on March 13 in Grande Prairie court after pleading guilty to charges of drug trafficking and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Danielle Sheri Sutherland was given a two-year conditional sentence order March 27 in Grande Prairie court after pleading guilty to a drug trafficking charge.

The charges against a third accused, Dustin Franklin Russel, were withdrawn on March 27.

All are from Grande Prairie.

They were charged after searches of a vehicle and a home in the Swan City on December 3, 2021, turned up pills, three shotguns, an automatic rifle, another rifle, more than 1000 rounds of ammunition and clothing with police markings.

Police said at the time that the investigation had started in October of 2021.
