Fatal collision near Webster, Highway 2 closed to traffic

Update April 11, 2023: The Spirit River RCMP say at 4:48 a.m. they received a report of a two vehicle collision on Highway 2 between Township Road 750 and 760 near Webster.

Initial investigation revealed a passenger car had a head on collision with vacuum truck.

A 20-year-old male resident of Grande Prairie, and lone occupant of the passenger car was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the two occupants of the vac truck was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The other occupant of the vac truck was uninjured.

RCMP remained on scene for several hours while collision analyst attended the scene and the investigation into the circumstances around the collision is still happening.

The Spirit River RCMP are on scene at a fatal motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on Highway 2 between Township Road 750 and 760 near Webster.

Mounties are asking drivers to avoid the area and use alternative routes; Alberta 511 reported the highway closed as of 5:46 a.m.

Delays are expected due to the collision and police are remaining on scene with the assistance of RCMP Collision Analyst for the investigation.

An update will be provided when information becomes available.
