Red Deer RCMP Officer involved in shooting

Red Deer, AB–An Alberta RCMP Officer has been involved in a fatal shooting in Red Deer.

RCMP say around 4:30 p.m. on April 13th, Red Deer RCMP responded to a complaint of a male threatening to harm individuals with a knife inside a residence.

An altercation occurred when RCMP arrived between the man with the knife. As a result, one officer discharged their service pistol. A 33-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were physically injured.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been directed to investigate. At the same time, the Alberta RCMP is conducting an internal review to gather a full account of what took place during the incident.
