Wildfire hazard moderate to high in Peace River Forest Area

Warm, dry weather along with dry grass means the wildfire hazard is rated moderate to high in the Peace River Forest Area.

It has had 14 wildfires this year that have burned 66.49 hectares.

Officials say they have been called out several winter holdover and permit-related fires in recent days.

People are being asked to go back and check any winter burn sites to make sure the fires are completely out.

A recent wildfire started from a winter burn that had not been checked.

Across Alberta, there have been 164 wildfires that have burned over 582 hectares since January 1.
