City and County of Grande Prairie partner to promote Emergency Preparedness Week

The City and County of Grande Prairie are teaming up to promote a national awareness initiative, Emergency Preparedness Week, which runs from May 7 to 13.

Mayor Jackie Clayton said in a release, “We’re proud to partner with the County of Grande Prairie to promote the importance of emergency preparedness, being prepared for an emergency is everyone’s responsibility, and we want to ensure that our community has the tools and resources to do so.”

This year, the focus of the week will be “Ready For Anything” which encourages Canadians to take three simple steps to become better prepared for emergencies Those steps are:

Know the risks.
Make a plan.
Get an emergency kit.

County of Grande Prairie Reeve Bob Marshall said in a release, “Creating a plan to know what to do if disaster strikes is the first step to preparing for emergencies. We’re pleased to partner with the City of Grande Prairie in promoting Emergency Preparedness Week to help improve the safety and security of residents.”

Throughout the week the City and County will be sharing tips and resources for residents to help them become better prepared for emergencies, for more information about Emergency Preparedness Week, click here.

Events are already underway across the province to raise awareness for Emergency Preparedness Week, as the Salvation Army held an emergency meal cooking competition at Pine Lake last weekend, featuring the entire 20-unit Emergency Disaster Services vehicle fleet from across Alberta, and more than 50 people, including a team from Grande Prairie.
