UPDATE Evacuation alert issued for all of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation

UPDATE: The evacuation alert for the Sturgeon Lake area has been expanded to include everyone north of Highway 43 and east Young’s Point Road, including Cozy Cove and Boyd’s Lakeshore Properties.

Officials say everyone in the affected area should evacuate now.

An Alberta Emergency Alert to evacuate has been issued for all of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation because of an out of control wildfire.

Fire watchers say there is a wildfire located on the southeast side of Sturgeon Lake that is burning north and west.

People are being told to go to Valleyview, but Highway 43 is closed so they must find another way to get there, People can register at the Memorial Hall in Valleyview.

They are asked to bring their pets, important documents, medication, and enough food, water and supplies to be away from home for three days.

Anyone needing help to get out of the area can call 780-524-3345.

The Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation says a wildfire has forced the evacuation of homes in the Indian Farm area.

Emergency crews are on scene.

A muster point for evacuees has been set up at the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation Community Hall.

Administration at Sturgeon Lake is asking residents to take precautionary measures in case they need to evacuate.

511 Alberta says the westbound side is closed between Range Roads 230 and 235. The eastbound side of Highway 43 between Range Roads 230 and 240 A is also closed. Detours are in place.
