Theatre showcase going ahead this week

May 9, 2023 | 6:00 AM

The show must go on.

Despite the ongoing wildfire situation, The Great Canadian Playwright Show case will get going today as scheduled.

Organizer Jen England says she is “delighted” with how plans for the first-ever version of this event have come together.

“What I am really looking forward to is the feature roundtable discussion. I think the topics are fascinating. “

“It’s not strictly theatre-related because it takes a village to raise a curtain, so that’s what that conversation is about.”

That discussion is planned for Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the Grande Prairie Live Theatre. Participants will include Kelly Robinson with Mirvish Productions and Keith Barker with the Stratford Festival.

The city is not the only host community.

England says Cat Fight at the Giant Beaver takes place Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Beaverlodge.

“These are the Affair of Honor ladies, and they will be doing a demonstration, a short scene demo.”

“We’re likely to see a conflict erupt and then a (combative) resolution of that conflict.”

England says there has been a really positive response from the community to this event coming here.

“It’s joyful to see different people with different interests identifying something useful within the conference.”

The showcase continues through Saturday. A link to a full schedule can be found here.
