Evacuations at seven AHS facilities displace 300 people

Alberta Health Services says healthcare support is being offered at reception centres in the North, Edmonton, and Central Zones for wildfire evacuees.

AHS also says about 300 people were forced out of healthcare facilities because of wildfires.

They were moved using both ground and air ambulances as well as chartered buses.

AHS said in a news release it would be contacting families to tell them where their loved ones are now located.

The ones that had to be evacuated included four acute care hospitals: the High Prairie Health Complex, Fox Creek Healthcare Centre, Edson Healthcare Centre, and the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre.

East Prairie Community Health Services, Rainbow Lake Community Health Services and the Evansburg Health Centre/Good Samaritan Pembina Village were also evacuated.

All remain closed.

The provincial health authority says all the patients are in safe settings and are receiving care.

Anyone expecting a cancer assessment of treatment in one of the evacuated areas should call the Cancer Centre Transition Team at 1-888-432-8865, AHS says it will try to “ensure your assessment or treatment remains as uninterrupted as possible.”
