County of Grande Prairie issues cautionary note to Evergreen Ridge users

May 17, 2023 | 2:54 PM

Recreational users of the Evergreen Ridge Recreation Area are being asked to use caution in that area over the coming weeks.

Even though there is no construction taking place within the recreation area, it is being used as an access point for heavy equipment being used to construct the Southeast Grande Prairie Firebreak.

Users may, however, encounter construction if they head east of the recreation area to access Crown land.

Parking may also be limited over the next few weeks due to the presence of heavy equipment.

Users can park along Range Road 55, but only on the west side of that road, in order to prioritize emergency vehicle access to homes in that area.

Parks and Recreation Manager for the County of Grande Prairie Christine Rawlins says in a news release: “The public may wish to consider using other trails in the region while the firebreak is being constructed, and to avoid any active construction areas where heavy equipment is being operated,”

The public should also watch for surveyors, who have been given special permission to use off-highway vehicles during the construction of the firebreak.
