Two men charged after fire in 121-year-old church in Grouard

High Prairie RCMP say two men have been charged with arson after a fire in a 121-year-old church in Grouard.

Two High Prairie men, 56-year-old Kenneth Ferguson and 50-year-old Gerald Capot are also each facing a count of break and enter to commit theft.

Both have been remanded and are due in High Prairie court Monday, May 29.

Fire crews were called in at 3:30 Monday afternoon. No one was hurt.

The Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan says in a Facebook post that they are “deeply saddened at the loss of St Bernard Catholic Church.”
