County to host intergenerational lunches during Seniors week

Next week is Seniors Week, and the County of Grande Prairie is joining forces with a pair of schools to host intergenerational lunches.

The first one will take place next Tuesday at Clairmont Community School, while the other is set for next Wednesday at Hythe Regional School.

Hosted by the schools and county Family and Community Support Services, the events serve a dual purpose.

They give students the chance to connect with and celebrate with seniors in their community, and it gives seniors an afternoon of fellowship, entertainment and activities.

County councillors will be on hand to help serve lunch at both events.

Reeve Bob Marshal says in a news release “These types of events help to build a greater understanding between generations and celebrate the important contributions of seniors in our communities.”

Both lunches are free to attend.

Local seniors are asked to register by June 1 to attend the events, which begin at 11:30 am both days.
