City of Grande Prairie launches 2023 sidewalk program

Jun 5, 2023 | 2:14 PM

The city will be launching its Sidewalk Program for 2023 this month.

It will see the construction of new sidewalks or enhancement of existing ones in several spots across Grande Prairie.

Phase 1 includes four areas: the 100 Street service road from McDonald’s to 121 Avenue, Juno Crossing from 93 Street to 92C Street, 121 Avenue from Crystal Ridge Road to 95B Street, and the south side of 76 Avenue from Poplar Drive to Resources Road.

Once those areas are done, Phase 2 of the program will begin, which includes the 100 Street frontage road between 108 and 109 Avenues, 96 Avenue from 92 to 93 Streets, 109 Avenue from 100 to 99 Street, and 92B Street from 95 to 96 Avenue.

Mayor Jackie Clayton said in a news release “These improvements will not only enhance pedestrian mobility but also create safer routes for residents while promoting active transportation options.”

Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly and adhere to any traffic control measures put in place during the construction period.

This year’s sidewalk program is expected to wrap up by late July.
