Jun 6, 2023 | 4:09 PM

Two out-of-control wildfires are currently burning in the Grande Prairie Forest Management Area, both located in Saddle Hills County.

One fire, GWF038 started today (Tuesday, June 6) around 1 p.m. and has burned 120 hectares of land. Oil and gas companies in the La Glace, Vahalla areas should expect to evacuate.

Saddle Hills County says on its Facebook page that anyone traveling on industry roads, or located downwind of the fire in Township 77-10, 77-09, or 77-08 should be prepared to evacuate.

Another blaze close by, GW035, was listed as being under control yesterday (Monday, June 5,) but has worsened since and is now listed as out of control.

A wildfire close to the BC border is also being monitored by county fire crews. At this time it does not pose a threat to public safety.
