Jun 8, 2023 | 3:34 PM

The fire advisory issued for the City and County of Grande Prairie has been upgraded to a fire ban.

This ban includes the Towns of Sexsmith, Beaverlodge, and Wembley.

At this time, existing burn permits are revoked and no new permits will be issued. All fires currently burning must be extinguished.

Under this ban all outdoor fire pits are prohibited, including:

  • Recreational fire pits
  • Open pit burning
  • Charcoal briquettes
  • Burning barrels
  • Cooking fires
  • Burning of refuse
  • Brush piles and crop stubble
  • Fireworks
  • Industry open pit flaring

However, off-highway vehicles (OHV) are currently not banned.

This ban will remain in effect until conditions change, and anyone looking for updates, live maps, or more information regarding the wildfire situation in the Peace Region, can click here.

Fire crews are currently responding to the Peavine Creek Wildfire that crossed the BC border, and continue to monitor the Boone Lake Complex wildfire.
