The County of Grande Prairie provided another update about the Peavine Creek Wildfire and Boones Lake Complex wildfires.

Crews are responding to the Peavine Creek Fire, as Regional Enforcement crews were dispatched yesterday (Thursday, June 8) to remove anyone that was impacting firefighting efforts and a 20-meter-wide fireguard was established southwest of Preston Lake.

County fire crews also continue to monitor the Boone Lake Complex Wildfires, and both are classified as out of control.

One blaze in particular located 20 km north of the Vahalla Centre, is only 5 km away from the County border.

Saddle Hills County and Central Peace Regional Emergency Management both say an evacuation alert is in place that takes in an area surrounding the fires that reach as far west as Baytree and the BC border.

County residents should stay tuned to Alberta Emergency Alerts in case of an evacuation, and anyone looking for updates, live maps, or more information, can click here.

Residents are also being reminded a fire ban is also now in effect, due to the hot, dry, and windy conditions.
