June 9 marks Farmer’s Day

Jun 9, 2023 | 1:31 PM

UFA locations are marking Farmer’s Day on Friday, June 9.

The company says this is about celebrating what farmers do every day and it wants to say thanks to farmers and ranchers.

Besides celebrations at the stores, there is also an online contest where two $5,000 UFA gift cards are being given away to members.

Farmer’s Day is held every year on the second Friday in June.

It started in 1945 as a way to salute the agriculture industry and was a statutory holiday at one time.

Landmarks around Alberta will be lit in UFA’s green and orange colours to mark the occasion.

Those will include Lethbridge City Hall, Calgary Tower, the Reconciliation Bridge which is also in Calgary, and the High Level Bridge in Edmonton.
