Peace River man charged with attempted murder

Jun 12, 2023 | 3:18 PM

One man is in hospital while another man faces an attempted murder charge after an alleged stabbing in Peace River over the weekend.

RCMP say they were conducting pro-active patrols in an area near 99 Street around 1 a.m. Saturday morning when they were notified by a resident about a man in distress.

Police located the victim, who they say had suffered several stab wounds.

He was airlifted by STARS air ambulance to a hospital in serious life-threatening condition but has since been upgraded to a stable condition.

The investigation led RCMP to arrest 27-year-old Richard Anderson of Peace River and charge him with one count of attempted murder.

Anderson was also wanted on three outstanding warrants, including two for failing to attend court and one for failing to comply with probation. He is being held in custody and is slated to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River on June 19.

Peace Regional RCMP would like to thank the community members that stepped up to assist the victim, adding their quick action to get help and assisting with entry into the building meant the victim was able to get the care they critically needed, faster.
