Bourke returning to Grande Prairie as new city manager

The City of Grande Prairie has hired a new city manager.

Shane Bourke returns to City Hall, having previously worked for the City in a number of capacities from 2017-2021.

That included a position as Corporate Services director, which he left in 2021 to become the CAO of Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality.

He also has previous experience as a Chief of Staff for several ministries with the federal government, as well as Director of Issues Management with the Premier’s office.

In a news release, Bourke said he is excited to return to Grande Prairie and to City Hall, and to get to work supporting council on an ambitious agenda that includes the new Municipal Police force, Brand Strategy, and Health Care Attraction and Retention strategies.

Bourke will replace Bob Nicolay, who is stepping aside from the city on June 30.

However, Bourke does not officially begin his new duties until September 18, which means current deputy CAO Arlen Miller will fill the city manager role on an interim basis until then.
