One-year jail sentence in child pornography case
Alberta Justice says a man who pleaded guilty to one charge in a child pornography case has been given a one-year jail sentence.
Curt Backlund was given the sentence on June 29 in Grande Prairie court. He had pleaded guilty to a possession of child pornography charge in April.
The Grande Prairie man was one of 24 people from around Alberta charged by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit between January and April of 2021.
ALERT said at the time that ICE had what it called “a record number of case referrals” going back to 2020 and worked with police around the province to make arrests.
