Wildfire danger rating now low in GPFA

Jul 17, 2023 | 12:05 PM

The wildfire danger rating in the Grande Prairie Forest Area has been downgraded to low following the precipitation received over recent days.

There are ten actively burning wildfires in the GPFA; two of which are being held and eight are under control.

On Saturday, the fire 10 km west of Deadwood Lake (GWF038) was declared as being held and to date has burned over 7,000 hectares.

There is still a fire restriction in effect for the northern part of the Grande Prairie Forest Area, with cities, towns, villages, summer villages, and provincial parks exempt from the restriction.

Since January 1, there have been 50 wildfires in the GPFA burning over 141,000 hectares.
