Three Grande Prairie baseball teams claimed provincial titles on the weekend.

The 15U AA Reds won the Alberta crown on their home diamond at Evergreen Park, beating the Southwest Edmonton Minor Baseball Association 12-8 in the final game, a win that capped a 4-0 run through the tournament.

Drew Thomas was named Tournament MVP after pitching the Reds to a win in their third game, then hitting a home run in the championship game.

Thomas, Ryder Witherden, Evan Sinclair and Jessaka Verhaeghe were named game MVPs for the final.

“It was an amazing weekend. The Parent Volunteers were instrumental in making it a huge success. It was icing on the cake with our team winning it all,” says Coach Cory Sinclair in an email to EverythingGP, adding the coaches and parents are very proud of this team.

This was one of two 15U titles for Grande Prairie. The Northern Lights 15U AAA team also won its provincials in Fort McMurray over the weekend.

The Grande Prairie Pirates also won the Master Men’s Fastball provincial championship and have qualified to play at the Canadian championship to be held in Surrey, B.C.
