County of Northern Lights declares agricultural disaster

Council in the County of Northern Lights has voted unanimously to declare a state of agricultural disaster in their municipality.

This was done at the July 25 council meeting following prolonged periods of drought and extremely dry conditions throughout the region.

The County of Northern Lights says the declaration does not trigger a direct response or help from the province but aids in highlighting troublesome areas throughout Alberta experiencing difficulties due to extreme weather conditions.

Local producers are encouraged to talk to representatives of their respective agricultural groups or AFSC for support and any questions they may have.
