Dawson Creek Exhibition & Stampede

The 101st Dawson Creek Exhibition & Stampede continues through Sunday.

Rodeo main performances at 12:30 PST on Saturday and Sunday, with the wagons every night at 5:30 BC time.

Chanse Vigen, Chance Thomson, Mitch Sutherland and Rae Croteau Jr. lead the WPCA aggregate after two days. Croteau had the fastest time last night, followed by Vigen, Kris Molle and Mitch Sutherland. Cody Ridsdale was sixth on the night.

The top four in the All-Pro aggregate are Gary Thiel, Lee Adamson, Kolton Thiel and Keith Wood.

Rodeo

The Crocus Hill Stampede in Valleyview goes Saturday and Sunday. Rodeo slack at 8 a.m. Saturday. Main performances at 2 p.m. on both days.

The Woolies & Bullies fundraising rodeo is set for Sunday at the grounds on Range Road 30 near Bezanson. The start time will be 1 p.m.

The day will include steer and sheep riding along with junior bulls and other events.

Money raised will go to Camp Heal-A-Heart.

The cost for anyone 13 and older is $20 at the gate, cash only. Twelve and under kids get in free.

Baseball

Peace River is a win away from clinching the Wheatbelt Baseball League title.

The Stampeders won Game 2 8-6 last night in Rycroft.

Game 2 started Monday and was delayed twice.

Game 3 is set for Tuesday in Peace River.

Horse Racing

Saturday’s horse races at Evergreen Park have been cancelled. Racing will go ahead Sunday at 1:15 p.m.

This weekend will mark the Memorial/Pioneer weekend.

The third races in the Sprint and Distaff Series are set for Sunday.

Aquarians

The Grande Prairie Aquarians are hosting their annual regional swim meet this weekend at the Eastlink Centre. 275 athletes are taking part.

The city says this means the flow rider, dive tank, and north side of the 50-metre pool will be unavailable from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

There is limited availability for lane swimming at those same times.

Other Eastlink Centre features will run at a limited capacity.

Hythe Motor Speedway

The next races at the Hythe Motor Speedway are set for Saturday and Sunday.

The schedule on both days will include the Canadian Super Truck Series Trophy Dash, Run Your Junk races, street stocks, and IMCA modifieds.

Racing starts at 5 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Rugby

The Division 1 Centaurs visit the Edmonton Pirates Saturday then host the Clansmen on August 19 at 2 p.m. at Macklin Field.

Volleyball

Canada will play Argentina in the quarter-final round at the Pan American Cup women’s volleyball tournament.

The game starts at 4 p.m. Alberta time Friday afternoon.

Canada finished group stage play at 2-2 after a 3-0 loss to the US Thursday.
