Another Calgary daycare reports case of E. coli

CALGARY – Another daycare in Calgary has been closed after a child tested positive for Shiga-toxin-producing E. coli.

The child fell ill around the same time as an outbreak related to 11 daycares that shared a central kitchen.

Alberta Health Services says it’s investigating whether the case at Calgary J-C-C Child Care is connected to the Fueling Brains outbreak that infected hundreds and sent dozens of children to hospital.

The co-founder of Fueling Brains, Faisal Alimohd, says his team is devastated and working to determine what happened.

He says the daycares will ensure families are provided credits or refunds, or be allowed to terminate their contracts.

Alimohd adds that his company will do everything it can to make things right.

His statement came after Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced a one-time payment of $2000 for each child affected by the outbreak.

Alberta Children and Family Services says the program is expected to cost two-and-a-half million dollars.
