Grande Prairie RCMP provide update on Grovedale arrest

Grande Prairie RCMP is updating the public about a police operation they were conducting in Grovedale earlier this month.

Mounties say in their report that Grande Prairie RCMP started an investigation after receiving a tip that a man was in possession of firearms and ammunition, contrary to a release order and federal firearm prohibitions.

Officers from the Grande Prairie RCMP, with assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team, then conducted a search warrant at a residence near Township Road 701A and Range Road 72, on September 19.

During their search, Mounties uncovered and seized a number of illegal items, including a loaded sawed-off shotgun, three rifles, knives, imitation firearms, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

As a result of the investigation, 44-year-old Grovedale resident, David Monette is facing 33 charges, including:

  • Five counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Four counts of possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition without license/registration
  • Four counts of unsafe storage of firearms
  • Eight counts of failure to comply with release order x
  • Ten counts of possession of weapons contrary to order

Monette was remanded into custody, with a court date set for Wednesday, September 27.
