Local hockey weekend recap

The North West Junior Hockey League and the Grande Prairie Storm were in action this past weekend.

NWJHL

There were eight games in the league over the weekend.

On Friday:

  • The Dawson Creek Kodiaks lost in a shootout against the Sexsmith Vipers 5-4.
  • The hosting Fort St. John Huskies beat the North Peace Navigators 4-1.
  • County of Grande Prairie Wheat Kings won 4-2 in Beaverlodge beating the Blades.

On Saturday:

  • The Navigators won the game in a shoot-out on the road against the Wheat Kings 3-2.
  • Dawson Creek hosted the Blades and won 5-2.
  • The Huskies won 7-1 at home against the Vipers.
  • The Fairview Flyers visited the La Crete Lumber Barons for the first of a back-to-back and lost 13-1.

The lone game on Sunday had the Flyers at La Crete, with the Lumber Barons winning 11-1.

Storm

The Grande Prairie Storm wrapped up their four-game road trip on Friday night in Drumheller.

The Storm won 5-4 in overtime thanks to a goal from #23 Logan Cunningham.

Their next game is Friday at home, hosting the Canmore Eagles. They will also host the Olds Grizzlys on Saturday.
