New dispatch technology implemented by Grande Prairie 9-1-1

Oct 16, 2023 | 12:28 PM

Grande Prairie 911 has implemented the next generation of Computer Aided Dispatch Technology for dispatching emergency services to calls.

The new system, Hexigon OnCall Dispatch System, streamlines workflow and will ensure citizens receive timely and competent emergency services when needed.

Being the first to implement this platform in Canada, the Grande Prairie Fire Department now has front-line apparatus equipped with technological enhancement computer terminals that are GPS enabled to make their response time more efficient, improving situational awareness, and resource management.

“I’m extremely proud of what GP911 has accomplished as they continue to punch above there weight, despite an ever-increasing demand for 9-1-1 services.” – Fire Chief of the GPFD Preben Bossen

GP911 provides primary 9-1-1 and fire dispatch services to over 47% of Alberta’s landmass, as well as northeastern B.C., and processed over 75,000 calls in 2022.

Other fire departments in the region will be able to benefit from the upgrade to the GP911 dispatch system.

“We’re also very grateful to the City IT and GIS teams for going above and beyond in supporting this project and the positive outcomes it will have for the citizens of Grande Prairie and region.” – Fire Chief of the GPFD, Preben Bossen

The initiative was largely supported by provincial 9-1-1 grant funding.
