Piikani RCMP charge guard with sexual assault
Piikani Nation, AB-A guard employed by the RCMP is accused of sexually assaulting a woman who was lodged in cells overnight.
Piikani RCMP says the victim told then she had been assaulted during the early morning hours of October 13th.
The Southern Alberta RCMP General Investigation Section was called in to investigate which included a review of the cellblock video recording. As a result of the investigation, 32-year-old Charles Provost from Brocket has been charged with sexual assault and breach of trust.
RCMP say Provost has been released from his position as a Corps of Commissionaire guard. “The RCMP takes all sexual assault incidents very seriously. Once our officers were notified that this had happened, action was taken very quickly and a thorough investigation was completed. No matter what the circumstances are, anyone in the care of the RCMP must be protected and we will not tolerate a breach of trust,” stated Acting District Officer for Southern Alberta RCMP, Superintendent Rick Jane.
