Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection unveils new website

The Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection unveiled a revamped website during a sponsor appreciation event held Monday, October 23, at the Grande Prairie Curling Centre.

Executive Director Karna Germsheid says a relaunch like this is important for any organization.

“We were at our time. About every five years, we look at doing that. Number 1, it gets us out into the community again and number 2, it gives us an opportunity to continue to stay relevant for everybody.”

Germsheid says the new site includes an improved Sport Registration tab.

“Consistently, we hear from parents that they have a hard time figuring out when registration is, and you know what? That’s not surprising because our organizations are run by volunteers, so it’s not always exactly consistent.”

“So, we want to come up with a solution for parents and for sports organizations to understand when other sports organizations were running their registration lists.”

Germsheid says they refer to the new setup as one list, all sports. It should allow parents to see what is open for registration at a given time of year. There is also a list of all the organizations and their contact information.

Germsheid says the organization serves 154 local sports groups, but there are several others like school teams that are not listed.

The organization also gave out certificates to a long list of sponsors, some of which have been sponsors for more than 10 years.

Germsheid says it is critical for sponsors to back sport and recreation in the community.

“Because, as we know, sport and recreation are run by volunteers, and they are critical to the health and well-being of our communities and they do need funding.”

Germsheid says any business interested in becoming a sponsor can contact the Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection office.
